6-1-09 report
Tarpon are everywhere and the winds are backing off to get at the Beach fish.

Boca Grande Pass the surrounding areas are loaded with giant silver kings. This past weeks West winds have kept us off area beaches and everyone fishing near the Pass and its protected waters. This resulted in crowds of boats and challenging fishing. When we were able to get on happy fish we got bites but many schools had anxious skippers that kept fish running around and scared. There are eating both crabs and minnows. We use small weights frequently to pull food down to the fish. I start out with corks and remove them as anglers gain experience and the feel of this specialized fishing. It is great to have so many big fish to work with. I am expecting much better catching as the winds shift back to normal this week. Crabs are hard to find but you an dip your own next weekend on the strong Spring tides. If the boats don’t scare fish they are hungry!
Snook fishing improved but the dolphin can be a big problem. Someone is feeding em because they are hanging around if you are releasing fish. We enjoyed some great snook action last week before Flipper found us. Some big fish too! We are getting a few reds and trout but not really targeting em. We got some fine permit and pompano last week for a nice change of pace. We even tangled with a few nice Spanish and king mackerel one day to add some fun and meat to the days catch. The weather has affected us but we make the best of it and have enjoyed some hot action as well as stayed out of the crowds most of the time. Let’s Go Fishing now! I do have a few days open here and there but don’t wait too long. Captain Van Hubbard <www.captvan.com>
