Great snook fishing in Venice florida.

2012-5-28 web report

Venice to Boca Grande snook fishing has been great; tarpon too.

We have enjoyed awesome snook action for almost a month. Some days they are larger hogs, other days we get more bites with medium sized snook. Baitfish can be challenging. White bait are not thick but I am able to get enough to fish with. Greenbacks have been missing this past week but may come back with stronger tides this week.

Redfish and trout are around and we have been catching some while snook fishing. Reds have been all sizes and not abundant but available. Trout are moving around and dolphin are a big problem with catching now. We start catching fish and dolphin come eat everything we release. We move the beggars follow us; cute but a problem. Lots of manatees around, even out in the Gulf.

Sharks, permit, barracuda and more are on the near shore reefs off of Boca Grande, Englewood and Venice. Some Spanish are around and snapper should start to improve soon.

Tarpon are abundant but chased more than normal so far. I don’t know how it will go but we do have plenty of big silver kings from Boca to Venice. The Boca Pass is loaded every morning but they get chased out by nine AM. I’m doing more tarpon this week we’ll see how it goes.

We are starting into our rainy season and waters will begin to cloudy up from runoff. This should improve the bite both in and outside. Maybe improve the minnow deal also? I have enjoyed some awesome fishing and great clients recently and am working to get more new photos up ASAP. Thank you for your patience, I’m computer challenged but learning.

Let’s go fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard www.captvan.com for additional info.
