I am sorry the rest of the country is suffering thru Winter but thankful it has spared us so far. Our days have actually been hot and the nights very mild. Low temps are where the highs should be this time of the year but I am not complaining. We are catching some nice pompano and expect to start targeting snook the first of the month. Baitfish have stayed in our area so far and I am predicting hot fishing if this mild winter continues.
White bait minnows are abundant and I am expecting them to hold unless very cold temps catch us. If the minnows hold the snook will bite better much earlier this year. Water temps have bounced around the lower seventies recently; slightly cooler than perfect for snook but not out of their range. Add some nice reds and trout to the mix and I’m looking forward to good catching any day.
We have enjoyed some almost predictable pompano fishing since the first of the year. Of course some days are better then others but we were only skunked once in last month. Some days they bit too good and made it look easy. We caught 4 yesterday and lots of whiting, ladyfish, bluefish, plus a drum and had action most of the time. Life is great when we can enjoy fresh pompano for dinner when we want.
It’s impossible to predict what Mother Nature will bring us so get out and enjoy this warm winter while we can. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard <info@captvan.com>
